When used as a vertical drain, the soft needlepunched continuous filament polyester allows much higher flow that its staple fiber felt-like counterparts.

In roof decks, garden decks, planter boxes, and swimming pool liner protectors, the planar and vertical flow allow continuous drainage. Aeration also acts in releasing moisture.
